Slug Control

Applications

Tests by Stocks Ag Ltd, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of pellet broadcasters have shown that using a good quality pellet of uniform size and density is vital to achieving wide and even distribution. Stocks’ tests showed TDS and wet process pellets made of high quality, durable ingredients achieved effective and even distribution. Cheaper, poorer quality pellets of variable size and density will give uneven distribution and consequently, unreliable control of slugs.

With more and more farmers setting tramlines at up to 28 metres, slugs pellets are being applied at widths wider than ever before. Essential to achieving applications at these distances is to use a modern pellet distributor and a high quality slug pellet like TDS. Such is the speed of the applicator disc to make pellets travel 28 metres, that all but the top quality pellets will shatter resulting in poor distribution.

Achieving effective distribution of pellets and an even number of baiting points per square metre is essential to successful slug control as it helps to ensure slugs will locate a pellet before finding newly planted seeds and could mean the difference between a healthy establishment and significant crop loss.
