Dare to Be Different

Slug control that goes the distance

You know the Toyota Hilux…
The one they tried (and failed) to destroy.

Dropped. Crushed. Submerged. Burnt.

Still running.

It came to stand for one thing: reliability under pressure.

So, ahead of Cereals 2026, De Sangosse asked a simple question:

What happens if you apply that same thinking to slug control - and then try to break it?

The Test

To find out, we enlisted the help of the Cereals Event Team to do their very worst.

This film puts De Sangosse slug pellets through a series of deliberately exaggerated, tongue-in-cheek durability tests, inspired by some of the most well known endurance challenges ever put to on vehicles like the Indestructible Hilux.

No lab coats.

No technical lectures.

No controlled demonstrations.

Just big machinery, controlled chaos, and one simple question:

Can we break it?

Why it Matters

In slug control, reliability isn’t a nice-to-have - it’s essential.

If pellets lose integrity, performance becomes inconsistent.

And when performance is inconsistent, risk increases – which in turn, can lead to re-application and additional cost.

By pushing durability to the absurd extremes, this film highlights a serious point:

consistent pellet integrity supports consistent field performance.

That’s why pellet integrity remains a key focus of our approach to reliable slug control.

It's the key to reliability you can depend on – even when conditions aren’t ideal.

The Inspiration Behind the Tests

The Indestructible Hilux became a symbol of durability by surviving conditions it was never meant to.

That same idea inspired everything we’ve done here.

A familiar idea of durability — brought into a different setting.

The Indestructible Hilux - Up Close

The story doesn't end on screen.

We're bringing the inspiration behind our Top quality Gear tests to Cereals, by kind permission of the Grampian Transport Museum.

We caught up with Ross McKirdy, the Museum Manager - just weeks before the vehicle leaves the Museum and makes it's way down to Diddly Squat.

See what Ross had to say.

A Chance to Meet the Original Owner

The Indestructible Hilux has become a famous icon, but have you ever wondered what happened to it's original owner Tim Edwards?

Farmer Tim will be joining the De Sangosse team on Stand 1148 on Thursday 11th

We're super excited to welcome Tim and reunite him with his old vehicle all these years later.

This is a photo of that same Hilux - working away back in the 1990s. Tim says he broke his leg that year - hence the chair and crutches in the field.
